Real-time operating system with temporal protection for embedded systems
In recent years, the increases in software size and intricacy have been remarkable. Techniques for preserving and improving software reliability are required in the field of embedded systems for hard real-time applications. Moreover, in the development phase of embedded systems with severe cost restrictions, such as car control systems, methods are considered for reducing production cost and system size. One method that would achieve it executes two or more applications on a single processor. When two or more applications are integrated on a single processor, it is necessary to protect the processing time of each application with a protection function called temporal protection. We are simply integrating hard real-time applications on a single processor by extending current real-time operating systems. As a first approach, a real-time scheduling algorithm is proposed for the temporal protection of processors. As a second approach, we implemented the proposed scheduling algorithm based on micro ITRON and OSEK/VDX OS. As a future work, evaluation of developed real-time operating systems and improvement of scheduling algorithms are considered.
